George's Version: Love is a funny thing…but how we come to find love in our own lives can be just as funny. I’m an old school kind of guy. I always imagined meeting my wife the “old-fashioned” way like through a family friend or an old flame from the past.
I was waaaaay wrong!!!
MeKayla and I came to know each other in the most unlikely way:
Commenting “Happy Birthday” on someone’s Instagram post.
Talk about timing…
Underneath my very unenthusiastic “Happy Birthday” comment I saw the profile picture of a super-fine chocolate follower “MeKaylajene”. I had to know this girl! So, I did what every man on earth would’ve done, I DM’d her! Nothing special at all, I simply sent her the 🏾♂️ (hey) emoji. If you ask her, she’ll say she waited 2 days to respond, but I know the truth. MeKayla messaged me back a few hours later and we talked non-stop every day and night about everything under the sun.
Within a MONTH, we made it official. Yes, we know, we moved very very quickly, however we both knew what we wanted and had to be intentional about it. At that time, MeKayla was finishing up her Master’s degree in Lynchburg and I was living Rutherfordton, NC. We spent so much time getting to know one another and falling madly in love each day.
So, here we are, 22 months later planning a wedding. I proposed to her December 26th, 2019 the day before my birthday. The day was perfect, Mekayla was so surprised!! Her entire family and closes friends were there, along with my family. The night was amazing, everything was perfect.
WOW, that’s all I can say! Being in this position, with this amazing young woman is a testament to how favored I am by God. If I had 1,000,000 opportunities in 1,000,000 alternate universes, there is no way I could have met a woman like MeKayla Jene’. My big cousin and hero, Felicia always told me, “You’ll know when you have the right one!” As always, she was right. Like the old saints in the country would say, “I KNOW THAT I KNOW THAT I KNOW” and as we approach this special day, we hope that you all will extend your prayers, love, excitement and wisdom. WE’RE GETTING MARRIED!!!!! I’M TOO HYPE.
Phew....I shed a tear of joy each time I read this story because I feel the excitement and an overflow of an assured love that this couple has for each other. We praise God for their union. If you are looking for love out there.....well Love will probably find you and in the most unlikely way too! Keep an open mind and an open heart!
